How do I plant?

Clay Soil: Dig hole 12 inches larger than the root ball. Set the root ball 2 to 3 inches above ground level. Back fill with soil. When back filling the soil, pack soil well to avoid air pockets. Water in, mulch 3 to 4 inches deep. Keep mulch 2 inches away from the base of the tree trunk to prevent rot.

Sandy Soil: Dig hole 12 inches larger than the root ball. Set the root ball at ground level. Back fill with soil. When back filling the soil, pack soil well to avoid air pockets. Water in, mulch 3 to 4 inches deep. Keep mulch 2 inches away from the base of the tree truck to prevent rot.

Top Soil: Dig hole 12 inches larger than the root ball. Set root ball in at ground level. Back fill with soil. When back filling the soil, pack soil well to avoid air pockets. Water in, mulch 3 to 4 inches deep. Keep mulch 2 inches away from the base of the tree trunk to prevent rot.

Detailed Planting Instructions: Plants will have a root ball wrapped in metal and burlap or in a plastic container. Keep in shade and moist until planting time. Plant balled and burlap root balls, leaving metal frame intact as to not disturb the root system. This will not harm the plant and will degrade over time. Cut rope away from trunk. Container plants, remove the plastic container to recycle. The hole dug should be 12 inches larger than the root ball.

Watering Your Plants

Consistent moisture is important. The first water after planting your purchase should be a good drench to encourage new root growth. We suggest a trickle for 15 minutes 2 to 3 times a week until your plants are well established.
